Too Late for Newborn Photos? Not in Greenville, SC – Here’s Why

Newborns

Traditionally, newborn photos are scheduled around 1-3 weeks after the birth of a baby. While you see smiling faces and tender moments in all the newborn photos I share, the truth is that the post-partum phase isn’t easy. Personally, I struggled quite a lot after the birth of my three children! I’m always amazed by the strength and resiliency of all the new moms I have the honor of photographing.

Do Newborn Photos HAVE to be taken right after birth?

So what happens if you aren’t ready for portraits right after your baby is born? You may have a tough recovery from having a c section. Maybe your baby has to stay in the NICU before they can join you at home. Or maybe this is your third or fourth baby and life just moves so quickly you forgot to schedule a newborn session. Does this mean you missed your chance? Absolutely not!

It is always worthwhile to document this stage, even if your baby is slightly older. I typically photograph newborns within 1-3 weeks of birth. However sometimes life circumstances can come up and parents may not or cannot be ready that soon.

What to expect during a Greenville SC newborn session when your baby is a little older

My style of newborn photography is a more relaxed, lifestyle version of a newborn session. This means it is much more natural. I capture a lot of moments with your newborn in your arms or lying in their crib, so we can still get beautiful portraits even if your baby is older!

You will have to slightly adjust expectations when your baby is older for his or her newborn session. Naturally older babies will be more alert and will probably be awake for most if not all of the session. The samples in this blog post showcase babies that are around 8 weeks old. These are still beautiful images that these families can cherish and use to commemorate those early days together as a family.
