I’m sharing my top tips for how to prepare for your Greenville family photos. When clients book with me, I walk them through every step of this process! Have you ever booked family photos, only to never hear from your photographer again until you see them on your session date? This can leave you feeling nervous, confused, and unprepared for your portraits. My philosophy is to take on less clients so I can support them through the entire process. From planning our time together through the final products you enjoy, I’m there to provide guidance and help the whole time. Today I’m sharing some of the tips for how I help clients prepare for Greenville family photos!

1- When to Book Your Greenville Family Photos

When it comes to Greenville family photos, the earlier you book the better! This is especially true if you hope to have your portraits taken during the fall. The fall is by far the busiest season of the year for family photos. In addition, there is a limited time frame between the changing of the leaves and the time the trees are all bare, so you want to be sure to schedule in enough time for that!

You also want to book early enough to have time for outfit and location selections. Ideally you should start reaching out to possible photographers at least 2-3 months in advance of a session. I always plan a phone call upon client inquiry so I can hear exactly what a client is looking for and I can answer any initial questions so that everything is clear and upfront. If your photographer isn’t willing to schedule a call with you prior to booking, this is a HUGE red flag! It’s imperative to have a photographer who is responsive and available.

2- Decide the End Result You Want

Think about the overall look that fits your family best. If you prefer a soft and natural look, a flowy dress and field may be a great option for you. Is your family more formal like the family featured in this post? Then a manicured space and and dressier attire would fit your needs best.

Before a session, I schedule time with my clients to hear about their personal preferences for the look of their family portraits. Then I provide suggestions and insights for the best location and outfit looks to achieve their goals.

3- How to Prepare Your Children for Greenville Family Photos

When it comes to preparing children for family photos, always be mindful to plan around having full tummies and to be well rested. Explain to your children what to expect, and plan a reward or celebration for after the session! Ultimately, the best way to ensure a great session is by selecting a photographer who specializes in working with children.

After 10 years of working with children from newborns through high school seniors, I’ve learned how to effectively communicate with children and make them feel comfortable during a session. Winning over children and drawing out their personalities for portraits is the best part of my job!

4- Decide How to Best Enjoy Your Final Images

Having family portraits taken is an investment of time and money. So why would you let your precious memories sit in the cloud where they can’t be enjoyed every day? Instead you should think about how you would best enjoy these portraits. After our session together, I schedule a call with clients to help them with this final step. I assist in crafting artwork from your favorite images from our time together. The most popular options amongst my clients are albums and framed portraits. I design and deliver these straight to your door so you don’t have to worry about sourcing quality photo products.
